Advanced flame retardants:

Where safety meets sustainability

HOFNIL-37A

(Melamine Cyanurate-Based Flame Retardant for Polyamides)

We at SK Minerals & Additives Limited designed HOFNIL-37A as a robust, intumescent, halogen-free flame-retardant additive that excels across a broad range of polymer systems. In essence, HOFNIL-37A’s mechanism operates through a synergy of acid donors, carbon sources, and gas generators which, upon heat exposure, swell and form a porous char layer that insulates the polymer surface. This char barrier impedes heat transfer, limits volatile fuel generation, and slows flame propagation.

As we developed it, we emphasized key processing and stability characteristics: non-hygroscopicity, low water solubility, and thermally stable decomposition. You’ll find it easy to handle and integrate into formulation, without compromising flow or compounding stability.

Typical Applications

We validate HOFNIL-37A via real-world usage across diverse industries. Here’s how you can apply it:

  • Plastics & Polymers: Compatible with polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), thermoplastic elastomers (TPE / TPV), HIPS / ABS, synthetic rubbers
  • Application Areas:
    • Injection moulding of housings and enclosures
    • Cable & wire insulation (halogen-free, low-smoke demands)
    • Extruded profiles and films
  • Coatings / Sealants: As part of intumescent coatings that expand into protective char on metal or structural substrates
  • Textiles & Fibers: Fire-safe fabrics for mass transit, uniforms, upholstery
  • Adhesives & Sealants: Incorporation into adhesives to impart flame retardancy without major rework

We don’t just offer you a product – we work with you to customize flame retardant blends tailored to your application specifications, so you can integrate them seamlessly across polymer systems with minimal adjustments to your formulation.

Key Advantages

  • Char-forming Mechanism: Promotes a stable, expanded char that insulates substrates and delays flame progression.
  • Higher Thermal Stability: Exhibits elevated decomposition temperature compared to conventional APP systems, enabling broader processing windows.
  • Reduced Smoke & Toxicity: The intumescent pathway limits harmful emissions — a key benefit when compared to halogenated alternatives.
  • Water Resistance & Low Solubility: Maintains integrity in humid or aqueous environments thanks to its low solubility profile.
  • Compatibility & Ease of Integration: Integrates smoothly into polymer matrices without requiring drastic modifications.
  • Non-hygroscopic & Safe Handling: No moisture uptake, no flammability of the additive itself — simplifies storage and logistics.
