Polybutylene Teraphthalate

Advanced flame retardants:

Where safety meets sustainability

Polybutylene Teraphthalate (PBT) - Flame Retardants Additives

Overview

Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT) Flame Retardant Products, engineered for industries where fire safety, mechanical excellence, and thermal resilience are critical. Combining PBT’s inherent strengths—high dimensional stability, chemical resistance, and electrical insulation properties—with cutting-edge flame-retardant technology, our solutions resist ignition, suppress smoke emissions, and meet stringent global standards.

HOFNIL-73GA

(Melamine Cyanurate-Based Flame Retardant for Polyamides)

HOFNIL-73GA is a halogen-free flame-retardant additive designed specifically for polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and polyester systems, including glass-reinforced compounds. Based on a phosphorus–nitrogen intumescent mechanism, it provides effective flame resistance without the drawbacks associated with halogenated solutions.

PBT and polyesters are widely used in electrical, automotive, and industrial engineering plastics, but they are inherently flammable. HOFNIL-73GA enables compounders to achieve UL94 V-0 performance.

Typical Applications

Polymer / Substrate Application Areas Performance Outcome
PBT (glass-filled)
Connectors, switches, circuit housings
Achieves UL94 V-0 classification
Polyesters
Appliance housings, lighting components
Stable char formation and insulation
Glass-reinforced grades
Automotive electronics, industrial components
Maintains strength with FR compliance

Key Advantages

Engineered for PBT & Polyesters – Optimized for polyester matrices with or without glass fibre reinforcement.

Thermal & Processing Stability – Withstands polyester processing temperatures without degradation.

Electrical Safety – Ensures flame retardancy while retaining insulating properties.

UL94 V-0 – Enables compliance in demanding electrical and automotive applications.

Eco-Friendly Alternative – Halogen-free, non-toxic, and antimony-free.

Low Smoke & Drip Resistance – Intumescent action reduces smoke generation and prevents dripping during fire events.

HOFNIL-FR 255

(Melamine Cyanurate-Based Flame Retardant for Polyamides)

HOFNIL-FR 255 is a high-purity melamine cyanurate (MCA) flame retardant additive designed for polyamide (PA6 and PA66) systems. It functions via a synergistic nitrogen-based mechanism, releasing non-flammable gases and promoting char formation during combustion.

Compared to halogenated systems, MCA offers superior thermal stability, low toxicity, and excellent electrical insulation properties, making it a preferred choice for engineering plastics used in safety-critical applications. HOFNIL-FR 255 provides reliable UL94 V-0(for unfilled) & UL94 V-2(glass filled) performance in thin-wall nylon components while maintaining mechanical integrity.

Typical Applications

Polymer / Substrate Application Areas Performance Outcome
PA6 / PA66
Connectors, switches, housings, plugs
UL94 V-0 performance at optimized loading
Glass-Filled Polyamides
Automotive components, under-hood parts
Thermal stability and mechanical retention
Electrical Components
Circuit breakers, sockets, terminal blocks
Excellent electrical insulation with FR properties
